Behind the Scenes of a Fashion Editorial: Creating Exposure and Media Coverage for 3 Different Brands
As a former brand owner, I understand the challenges of creating visuals that not only showcase a collection but also communicate a story that resonates with the target audience. This is why editorial photoshoots are such a powerful tool for brands—they offer a unique opportunity to build exposure, create artistic legacy, and secure features in top fashion publications.
For this particular editorial, I collaborated with a selection of talented designers and artisans, bringing together different elements to create a cohesive and visually striking fashion story. The goal was to produce a series of images that would not only be used for brand promotion but also gain recognition through publication in LUCY magazine.
The Creative Direction: Blending Artistry and Fashion
A strong editorial begins with a clear artistic direction. For this shoot, I wanted to capture a balance between raw nature and refined craftsmanship, highlighting the contrast between handmade luxury and the organic textures of the outdoors.
Hair and makeup were crafted by a dedicated artist to complement the aesthetic, ensuring that every detail aligned with the overall concept.
To bring this vision to life, I scouted two models with distinctly different aesthetics to showcase the versatility of the designs. Each look was carefully curated with a mix of brands and independent designers:
- Maison Krasnova – A Parisian hatmaker house, adding a sculptural, high-fashion touch.
- Lena Runa – A designer with experience in couture craftsmanship, creating intricate handmade dresses.
- WOODO – My own bag label, featuring hand-painted, one-of-a-kind leather pieces.
- Vintage & Small Designers – Accessories were sourced from a variety of designers and vintage collections, adding uniqueness to each look.
The Location: A Golden Field Outside Paris
While Paris is often the quintessential backdrop for fashion editorials, I wanted to push the narrative beyond the usual cityscapes. We ventured outside the city into a vast wheat field, using nature as a poetic contrast to the couture-like elements of the wardrobe. The golden hues of the wheat stalks, combined with the play of wind and natural light, gave the images a cinematic, timeless feel.
The Execution: Balancing Digital & Film Photography
On the day of the shoot, I worked with both digital and film photography, capturing the essence of the editorial in different mediums. The digital images provided crisp, high-resolution visuals perfect for publication and brand campaigns, while the film images added a nostalgic, artistic depth to the collection.
Unpublished vs. Published Work
While the editorial was successfully featured in LUCY magazine, not all images made it to publication. However, these unpublished shots hold their own artistic value, often providing brands with additional content for their marketing channels. Below, you’ll find:
- Unpublished Images – A selection of shots that highlight moments not included in the final magazine spread.
- Published Images – The visuals that were chosen by LUCY magazine.
- Film Gallery – A curated series of film photos taken in parallel, showcasing a more organic and intimate perspective.
Let's start with reviewing the unpublished snaps featuring product photography and behing the scenes moments:
